INTRODUCTION
The Emergency and Trauma Department (ETD) in Hospital Shah Alam shall function according to a set of operational policies. The operational policies shall ensure that quality, efficient and cost effective care is given to patients. Quality and efficient care rendered shall be based upon its urgency as well as priority of care required thus enabling the pursuit of process excellence in the management of patients as well as the personnel management of staff.
The ETD in Hospital Shah Alam shall be operational 24 hours a day to serve patients suffering from trauma and medical emergencies. Emergency Medicine and Trauma Services general scope includes pre hospital and hospital based medical care. It is a specialty that offers clinical care to a wide range of acute medical infirmities, illness or injury. This involves the provision of emergency critical medical care that includes diagnostic, resuscitation and stabilization components with lifesaving interventions.
It is also expected that the ETD be in a state of readiness for the management of mass casualty incidents, disasters or pandemics.
GOL / OBJECTIVE :
Objective
- To provide prompt, accurate and definitive emergency medicine and trauma care service.
- To provide an integrated and comprehensive care which is seamless from the pre hospital care setting through to the hospital service.
- To provide “total quality management” in all the critical management phases from pre hospital care to triage service, sorting out to the various dedicated management zones.
- To provide efficient and effective resuscitation and stabilization together with an accurate diagnostic service and critical life saving interventions.
- The management of the critically ill patient shall be conducted by an efficient team of skilled personnel which include specialists, medical officers, assistant medical officers, staff nurses and other healthcare personnel.
