Pathology Department

The Department of Pathology is one of the departments in Hospital Shah Alam, a government hospital under the Ministry of Health Malaysia. It is led by a pathologist appointed by the Hospital Director and includes several key functional units:

Objective

• To provide medical laboratory testing services in compliance with current ISO 15189 and other applicable standards and regulations.

• To achieve continuous improvement in testing and reporting of accurate, reliable and timely results.

• To ensure adequate training and professional development of the laboratory personnel to maintain compliance and competencies towards effective service.

• To implement and maintain effective quality control and risk management system.

• To promote a patient-focused approach with effective communication among laboratory personnel, users, and patients.

Function

• Provision of diagnostic testing in the area of Chemical Pathology, Haematology, Microbiology, Transfusion Medicine, Histopathology & Cytology.

• Provision of transfusion medicine services including blood inventory, immunohematology and clinical transfusion management.

• Provision of point of care testing (POCT) services.

• Provision of consultative services in the various aspects of pathology and transfusion medicine.

• Provision of training for laboratory personnel and staff from hospitals, clinics, institution of higher learning and other government agencies. vi. Involves in collaborative research and method development.

Service Hours

The department follows government working hours: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with lunch breaks from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm (Monday to Thursday) and 12:15 pm to 2:45 pm (Friday).
