The general ICU has 16 beds, which caters for all the departments in the hospital. The management of patient is always done in consultation with the primary physician or surgeon. During out-of-office hours, the intensivist or anaesthetist on-call would be physically present in the unit when the need arises. The unit is managed 24 hours by a resident medical officer, responsible in providing first line call during out-of-office hours. He/she will discuss all referrals and problems in the unit with the intensivist or anaesthetist on-call.
